Fearing that I might miss out on something while compiling this list, I went through the Top Twenty Playlists in the music streaming sites. I listened to every song. The charts have almost nothing in common with my list.

This Ved Sharma track is barely a few weeks old but is already on top of the charts. When the young singer-songwriter approached music director Mohit Sharma with his original composition, Sharma quickly recognized its hit-making potential and included it on VYRL originals — his platform for independent music outside Bollywood. And the rest, as they say, is history. You probably know the Labh Janjua original by heart. You might even remember dancing to the irresistibly catchy number when it burst onto the international club scene in the 90s. While the lyrics are now in Hindi, the unmistakable opening hook is thankfully still the same.
Haan Mai Galat
For Hindi film music, was a much better year than , even though we got no albums from Pritam or Vishal-Shekhar and the only Vishal Bhardwaj-Gulzar collaboration was a sorry dud. Amit Trivedi dropped nine soundtracks this year, and that sentence does not have the ring to it as it did five years ago. Once again, Arijit Singh stood tall as the best playback singer. The multi-composer soundtrack for Jalebi had some lovely, if old-fashioned, music. Among the more experienced composers, only Trivedi and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy had soundtracks this year.
If you think about Bollywood music from the last decade, the first thing that comes to one's mind is the endless bombardment of tasteless remixes and item numbers. There have been songs which can be forgotten as they are composed purely for commercial purposes. But if one rises up from the remix culture, there are few songs and albums that music directors from the Hindi film world have delivered every year.
